Types of EV Chargers
Understand Your EV Charging Options
Level 1 – Slow
A Level 1 charger uses a standard 120-volt wall outlet and provides up to 5 miles of range per hour. This charger comes with your EV for convenient overnight charging and is ideal for plug-in hybrids with smaller batteries.
A Level 1 charger is the most affordable and easiest to set up but they are also the slowest of the three charging levels and takes 11-20 hours to charge from empty.
Level 2 – Fast
A Level 2 charger uses a 240-volt wall outlet, similar to a dryer outlet, and provides 32 miles of range per hour. This charger is commonly available in homes and public spaces and provides a quicker overnight charge (8-10) hours.
A Level 2 charger is a practical investment because you can charge up to 8 times faster and save on electricity when charging during lower rate times.
DC Fast Charging – Faster
DC Fast Chargers are the fastest EV charging option and provide up to 250 miles of range per hour. Achieving an 80% charge in about 20-30 minutes, it’s ideal for extended drives, road trips, or quick charges.
DC fast chargers are only found in public spaces and cannot be installed in residential households.
